Thermo Fisher Scientific Completes Acquisition of Alfa Aesar to Significantly Expand Laboratory Chemicals Offering

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO), the world leader in serving science, has completed its previously announced acquisition of Alfa Aesar, a leading global manufacturer of research chemicals, from Johnson Matthey Plc, for £256 million (or approximately $400 million) in cash.

Alfa Aesar has approximately 480 employees at key locations in the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, China, South Korea and India. The business generated sales of approximately £78 million in 2014 and will be integrated into Thermo Fisher’s Laboratory Products and Services Segment.
